Hola amigos,
This week, and for the next couple of weeks, I'm writing from Mexico and the US! We're on our long-awaited honeymoon so expect only short notes; I'm much too busy having a good time for proper writing and my brain is floating in a sea of green salsa. I've been in Mexico City for two and half days now and already have had some of the best food I've ever had.
Despite the jet lag we've chugged through tostadas, quesadillas, tacos, chilaquiles, ceviche, mole and crickets. We were very lucky to sneak into Pujol due to a last minute cancellation and very generous wedding gift, and it was incredible. With that and a food tour around the city we had a first full day that will be hard to beat. Why isn't everything in life served with limes?
The city itself is loud, colourful, humid, busy and laid back all at the same time. As it's Easter week, I think the streets are a little quieter than usual as it he locals have some holiday but nobody's told the traffic. We've mostly been exploring the city on foot but, whether because of the heat or altitude or both, this has caused my fingers to swell up into rotund pink sausages during the day. We've had no choice but to stop for regular cervezas to give my poor little porkers a rest.
On the cards for the rest of the week is more tacos, a hot air balloon ride, mezcal tasting, learning how tequila is made (I'm dubious about this because one whiff of tequila takes me back to a terrible night in 2012), and some cracking breakfasts. That's it for now, I'll report back more later on - right now there's a frosty margarita with my name on it that demands immediate attention.
